We live in an age where we are constantly bombarded by external influences, both emotional and environmental—led down omnidirectional, metaphorical garden paths to places marked with signs that read “this is where you should belong” and “this is where you should be going”. What we (honestly) desire and who we (truly) are is as a result compromised by what we’re told we should aspire to, and who we’re told we should become. As such, our souls often suffer, and due to this internal conflict, our art suffers, too.

For jane. magazine issue four, I explored the endangerment of authenticity, the importance of becoming oneself, and the struggles involved in doing so within the—filtered, hash-tagged and censored—context of the modern world.
